A good week for Sporting Edge MPCC with 6 out of 7 sides coming away with a win. Well done to the Championship side who earned themselves a home semi-final in their One-Day comp which will see them up against Lancaster Park at Edgar Mac on Sunday 9th December. Saturday the Championship side get back into Two-Day cricket whilst the Division 1 side begin their T20 campaign with a double-header at Sydenham Park.
Congratulations to James "Comet" Duncan whose innings high 57 on Saturday for MP Sporting Edge Div.1 in a good win against BWUCC at Bishopdale Park took him past 1000 career runs scored for MPCC.
Congratulations to Darren Leigh who made the first MPCC century (his 12th for the club) of the season scoring 159 for MP Little Brown Jug Div.8 as they amassed 340/5 against LP Orcas at Woolston Park. MP scored 80 off their first 20 overs and then racked up a massive 260 off their next 20. The LP side were bowled out for 147 in reply with Masood Chakari taking season best figures of 7/22 in a dominant win.
A big thanks to Melissa Wilson and husband Jacob for all the food on offer Saturday night at Edgar Mac as part of "American Food Night". Those in attendance would not have left hungry! Congratulations to father and son duo Craig & Josh Dyer who won the judging in the best/worst Hawaiian Shirt competition.

MP Sporting Edge Div.1 vs BWUCC @ Bishopdale 1 (1 Day)(Win)
Final week of the round robin and we needed a win and LPW to lose to make the semi-finals. Arriving to a very damp pitch due to the rain over the last week after winning the toss Ash decided to have a bat first. Still a bit unsure of our best batting order we started off with Ash and Comet who started off very well putting on our best start of the season. Both batters struggled early on but managed to get through the opening 10 overs without losing a wicket. Ash was first to fall for 8 soon after not picking a slower ball, which brought in our overseas professional player Ed Waind. Ed and Comet batted very well together with Comet taking an aggressive role while Ed rotated the strike even though the ball was doing all sorts. Got through to drinks on 89-1, being in this sort of position at drinks was a bit of a surprise to the top order batters who are usually done for the day by then. Ed and Comet battled a few more overs after drinks till Ed was stumped for a well worked 11 bringing two rather large units together in the middle. While Collins was keen for quick singles early to settle the nerves, Comet had been at the crease for 30 overs so was in no mood to keep the engine running instead opting to go for cow corner. Comet brought up his first 50 for the season and after a few tired swings ran out of gas to be caught at cover for 57 from 98. Much like the other rigs in the team might need to work on the old fitness if he is to push on to larger scores. How ever at 122-3 there wasn’t really much concern with the dismissal. Having seen 1 catch from 7 taken in the first 32 overs, Ben got a ball that popped first ball to be caught by a diving catch at square leg first ball. Bellsy got off the mark with a 2 first ball before having a ball pop up hit his forearm then proceed to lob over his shoulder and land on the stumps, which he will be sure to be talking to the groundsmen about. Nabin missed the first ball to make his way back lbw for a golden duck and Jacob was given lbw for a 4th ball duck. So from 122-2 to 128-7 we had gone from being in prime position to being in a lot of trouble within about 4 overs. Kyle Sloane came in next and was bullied by a bigger man than himself (5”3) playing and missing regularly early. Although after surviving a hostile spell couldn’t resist a slower ball full toss to be bowled for 3 off 20 as Bellsy would say no boundaries in that. 141 for 8 with 8 overs left was the perfect time for a bit of Boom Boom Sharma who played a near perfect finishing role hitting many fours as well as finding the gaps the other batters struggled to find. Collins and Sharma put on 47 for the 9th wicket to see the team through to 187 off the 50 overs. Collins finishing 37* off 68 and Sharma 24* off 30, although there was some dodgy stat padding by Collins in the last over trying to nudge a single to get off strike rather than going after it.
With 187 on the board and Burnside having not won a game all season we were very confident coming out to bowl. So after the rigs had finished demolishing Mel’s baking, we started off with Jacob and Sloane. Both bowlers found out early that the batters loved the pace coming onto the bat with one of the openers getting on one knee and slog sweeping both of the bowlers early on. After being violated his first few overs Jacob came back well with 2 wickets, a dropped catch and an edge through the slips. He finished 2-36 off 6. While the batters were enjoying booming Sloane, he also picked up a key top order wicket finishing 1-20 off 4. Dave and Sharma were introduced next and Dave struggled early on to get it in the batter’s half of the pitch while Sharma continued in his good form. Dave picked up 1-22 off his 6 which was quite tidy considering he seemed to be struggling to find his rhythm. With things looking quite tight we brought on a couple of gun players in the form of Bellam and Waind. Bellam was bowling some unplayable stuff and quickly got a breakthrough with a caught behind by Comet in the slips although don’t know if there were much hands involved once it hit the belly, next ball was LBW giving him hope of a hattrick but unfortunately missed out. Ed proved why we paid so much money for the guy picking up 2 clean bowled wickets to finish on 2-11 off 5 overs. Bellam picked up the final wicket caught at mid-on to finish with 3-12 off 5.2 overs. So, Burnside all out for 122 off 30 overs and a 65 run win. Unfortunately, LPW got up over Sydenham so we will not be progressing to the semi-finals. We now move into the T20s and need to take a serious look at our batting as these large collapses have cost us many times in the critical games. Good luck to Seniors for their semi next week.

MP Little Brown Jug Div.5 vs Riccarton Cannons @ Nunweek 1 (Win)
We hosted the Riccarton Majha Cannons at the unofficial 4th home ground, Nunweek Park. It has been a place of good fortune for MPCC teams in the recent past so we hoped to keep the tradition going. In place of a pitch was 22 yards of very lush grass with a few lines painted at either end, so when tails was the call, and the Queens head stared back at me, I couldn't walk back fast enough, telling the lads we were bowling. Bushby (1-10 off 6) and Basa (3-18 off 8) took the new pill, first ball from Bushby unlucky not to get a plumb LBW. Basa showed he could do better with his first ball, crashing it into the middle peg. Esh, a few balls later gave us a great welcome back present to MPCC with his rocket arm, a superb bullet over the stumps to run out the other opener. Wickets kept falling like the rise and fall of the tide, Scotty showing steady hands at slip and gully for the 3rd and 4th wicket. An astute fielding adjustment took the 5th wicket, Gaurav snaffling a low shot in the perfect place 10m off the long on boundary. Our last minute fill in, H.Singh (2-8 off 4) and Gaurav (2-13 off 7) took us through to drinks, continuing to chip away the wickets, with a great mix of flight and speed. After the break, it was more of the same, Riccarton managing only a measly 54. Mani (1-1 off 0.5) picking up the last wicket. Great props to everyone in the field, not a single catch was dropped and only one misfield.
Esh and young Brayden opened the way, Esh looking very positive, only scored 6, but very good signs for the rest of the season. Knoxy put his new fitness to the test, stealing runs left and right. Brayden continued to be watchful, as the pitch now started to play a few games of uneven bounce and movement. The fall of Brayden for 2 (a debatable LBW) found Knoxy finding the middle, some succulent straight and cover drives. A great recovery catch at extra cover ended Knoxys' innings (22 off 42). Scotty (15 off 48) and Patto (8 off 36) polished off the remaining 23 runs, being very patient, ensuring that no MPCC batting collapse would happen. A comprehensive win, which keeps us 2 games off top place. It was hard to pick a player of the day, Basa taking the top off the order, Scotty's 3 catches, Knoxy's all round keeping and batting all deserve a mention. But my player of the day goes to Nick Kirk, for sometimes you don't get the opportunity for a bat or a bowl, but the attitude you show on the field, and the support you give to everyone is what the spirit of the game is all about.

MP Rebels Div.7 vs Marist-Harewood @ Tullett 1 (Loss)
We played Marist at Tullett. I was running late so Mike Beattie did the toss and lost. Marist put us in to bat and not long later we were 7/17. This brought myself and Andy together. We batted together for about 10 overs. Andy making it look easy hitting some lovely shots and I just tried to feed him the strike. We managed to put on 51 runs with Andy getting most of them and looking good while doing it. Till Andy (36) got a peach and I followed a few balls later (on 20) with a leading edge. MP all out for 68.
Bowling they were 3 wickets down when they passed our score. Dropped catches again being an issue, we need to start taking our chances. Thank you to Mike, Rhys and Jatinder for filling in. Thanks to Marist for the game which was played in good spirit hopefully next time we put up more of a fight. Player of the Day, Andy.

MP Identity Signs Presidents vs Sydenham Cardinals @ Edgar Mac 2 (Win)
MP Identity Signs hosted Sydenham Cardinals on the back track at Edgar Mac 1. I put Sydenham in on a track that looked like it was going to stay a little low. Rowe opened with Adams and both tested the batsmen regularly. Wild was the first to go, pulling one into Amy's hands at mid wicket off Rowe. At 10 overs they were 10/1. The excellent bowling continued after that with Kim coming on and knocking off the top order of McKay, Walker and Spence in her first 4 overs. Zane finished his 8 overs only conceding 5 runs. I joined Kim at the bowling crease and trundled into the wind picking up the wickets of Fleming, Guy and Van Dyke off my 5 overs. Guy tried to up the run rate and was the only batsman to hit double figures (10) before one snuck through to rattle his castle. Sydenham were also guilty of offering us 3 run out chances which we gladly took. So all out for 52 in 30.3 overs. It was a top bowling and fielding effort from us.
Into bat we went with instructions that the top order do the job. Opened with our late fill in Brian Davidson and Ants. Ants hit Fleming for 3 x 4's in the first over and things were looking good. Didn't stay that way though as Brian was caught cheaply and Ants (15) followed not long after. Ice's lean form with the bat continued, nicking off for 2. Donut also departed for 2. We were 34/4 and starting to get a little nervous. Needn't have worried though as Grunta (16*) and Amy (6*) saw us through in 15.3 overs. Guy was the pick of the bowlers picking up 2-9 off 5. Van Dyke picked up 2-12 off his 4 as well. Despite the low scores a very good game was played with lots of fun and laughter.

MP (Pickles) Presidents vs Lancaster Park @ Garrick 2 (Win)
The Pressies of Pickle moseyed on over to Garrick Park to take on the might of Lancaster Park. Hopping out of the car and taking in the sight of the pitch, I was at once set back, racking my memory, trying to remember if Garrick was an artificial pitch and if I had enough time to duck back home for some spring loaded stumps... Richard assured me, still in the carpark, nah mate, she's a grass wicket. On taking a closer look I can confirm, yes in fact it was a natural, grass seed a compulsory extra. First real task of the day, win the toss... Tick, second task, ask Park to bat, Tick. Taking in the excellent facilities in the changing rooms, trying out some of the stashed away gym gear and at some stage losing my kids, finally managed to get on the ground with a full team, established perhaps half an hour before hand and a support crew of the damaged. I opened up with Dolan and Browne who did a good job of containing Parks top order. Dolan trapping Wayne Durham in front for 6 (a very handy swipe over the leg side boundary) while Browne was proving hard to get away until a six off the final ball of his spell. Bring on the change bowlers and the action really started. Okay that was more for us with Crimp and myself starting with 2 maidens a piece, Cam blasting through Rangi (4), while I got Tim to nibble outside off and Muzz taking an excellent one handed effort to have him departing for 20 well struck runs. Horsfall (4) took on Humey's arm and was found short, Prebble LBW and Hayward playing on for 12, reducing Park to 66/6, just after drinks, with Quinn taking the long handle and avoiding the fielders with gusto. It took a bowling change and a set plan to overcome the big man, Wade bought on to fire down some darts and first ball sent down a full wide ball which Quinn attempted to crash to the leg side... Well he managed to get a fair piece of it and direction was about right, for myself stationed on the cow corner boundary to take two steps forward and then wait for eternity for it to arrive. Catch comfortably taken we could resume tightening the screws Quinn back in the hutch for 27. At least that was the thought, Styles and Rich Durham had some other ideas... The pair put on 29 before I switched Wade into the wind and he cleaned house, taking the last three wickets spaced within three overs. Wade finishing 6.5/1/25/4. Rich bowled for 13, Bray LBW (1), Stace top scoring for LPW bowled for 29 and Simpson not out 6. I must say however, it was a fantastic effort in the field from my lads, something that had been lacking in the previous few games, only a couple of catches going down both of which would have taken some super effort to complete (Pricey Snr and Wade both threw themselves horizontally to affect partial stops). 131 a credible score in the conditions and we would look to a good start to take it down...
Massive fail, I'm afraid to say, after 5.1 overs we were looking down the barrel at 9/4, Stace taking care of Muzz (0), Corbin (1) and Browne (0), with Wayne D accounting for Price Snr (1). A shakey start greeted Hume (suffering from a bout of gastro) and Pickle, which was overcome and with some excellent running (apart from the near suicidal quick single hit to Corry) and some big hitting from Hume, put on a 41 run partnership which was brought to an end courtesy of Steve Bray picking up Hume LBW for 36. Pickle lasted another 5 runs departing the same way for 15, and the sharks began to circle at 55/6. Wade almost only lasted one ball when he played with hard hands pushing the ball at a strategically placed Horsfall at silly off stump position, whom thankfully, couldn't quite get a solid hand around the ball. This opened up the best period of batting for us, Crimpy and Wade putting on 62 to put a huge dent in the target, helped along by a few drops (again very tough chances matched almost by excellent attempts), then Crimpy (24) couldn't get over the top of a cut shot placing it nicely into Styles hands off Simpsons bowling, 117/7. Pricey Jnr ran himself out (and after reflection was regretting the bat throw) for 2, which set up Dolan at number 10 going in with 6 runs yet to get. He faced out the remaining three balls of the over confidently giving the responsibility of scoring to Wade, which he duly took onboard with a boundary 4, two dots and another boundary to overtake Park's score. This also brought up his half century (53*), bringing to conclusion a very successful day for him. Stace 8/2/14/3 and Bray 8/1/30/2 being Parks most successful bowlers, and a special mention to Paul (one of LPW's broken players) for umpiring the entire match without any detectable bias... Overall a great day for cricket, both teams having chances to win and coming together at the conclusion to share a drink and talk the talk.
