Another frustrating week with an early cancellation call by Metro curtailing all afternoon grade cricket and to be fair it will be touch and go whether any grades get underway for the final week of 2021 this Saturday given the amount of rain that is predicted. Hopefully we get much better and more settled weather for the second half of the season and with that in mind adult mens cricket starts back 8th January 2022 for all grades except Cavaliers T20 who start back a week later on the 15th January.
Congratulations to Aaron Chapman #278 who scored his maiden MPCC Championship (Sen.A) fifty on Saturday 11th December in a very good T20 win against Old Boys Collegians at Elmwood 1. Aaron batted through the innings scoring 87 not-out (11 x 4's & 2x 6's) from 58 balls in what was the 2nd highest T20 score by an MPCC batsmen at that level behing Gary Casey's 108* against Heathcote in 2014/15. Azza's innings helped setup a match winning total of 180/1 which the side were able to defend keeping OBC to 167/9 and securing MP a place in the afternoon's semi-finals.
Congratulations to MP Sporting Edge Championship XI skipper Matt Ling #262 who brought up 50 "Senior A" games for MPCC in Saturdays round-robin T20 win against Old Boys Collegians at Elmwood Park and was presented with his Senior Cap just prior to the match by MPCC Club Captain and teammate James "Comet" Duncan. With the Championship side of 2019/20 having been relegated to Division 1 for 2020/21 Lingy showed his loyalty to the club taking on the role of Div.1 1st XI captain last season and led superbly from the front scoring 923 runs (5 x 50's, 2 x 100's, HS 154*) and taking 40 dismissals (35 catches & 5 stumpings) along with rebuilding a much better team culture which helped the side to an overall grade win earning them promotion back to the Championship Grade for this season. Lingy made his MPCC & Senior A debut for the club, scoring 56, on the 6th October 2018 against Lancaster Park at Garrick Park and has so far scored 1148 runs (4 x 50's, 2 x 100's, HS 111) and taken 51 dismissals (41 catches, 10 stumpings) in the field to date and we look forward to many more to come.
Congratulations to MP Sporting Edge Championship bowler Jacob Wilson #256 whose 4th wicket in his best T20 figures of 4/24 on Saturday against Lancaster Park was his 50th Championship (Sen.A) wicket for MPCC. His 50 wickets have come at an average of 17.80 with an RPO of 4.29 and include two five wicket bags and a ten wicket match haul with a best of 6/36.

Match Reports from Saturday 11th December ...
MP Sporting Edge Championship vs Old Boys Collegians @ Elmwood 1 (T20)(Win)
Coming into the final 20/20 round-robin match we were sitting 5th on net run rate requiring a win over Old Boys to progress to to the semi-finals. We got off to a good start once Lingy had won the toss and opted to bat, opening with Lingy and Aaron (the changed man) Chapman who got us off to a solid start with Lingy departing for a well made 34. With an opening partnership of 71 this set the tempo then brought on a great partnership between Deeley and Darren deciding to get on with things both hitting a couple of maximums which is usually unheard of by these two. Finishing our 20 overs 1 for 180, Aaron ending up on 87 not out off 58 and Deely 41 off 26.
Into the field there was a lot of energy after the performance with the bat, Beattie and Jake opened up with Beattie getting the first wicket 3rd ball followed by Jake with 1 in his first, off to a great start we had them 40-4 after 7 overs, the boys bowled really well. At the 16 over mark they were 117 for for 5 requiring 63 off the final 4 when the batting side got a good over in with Jake going for 24 in one over, followed by Deeley going for 17 in the next now requiring 27 off the final two the boys managed a tidy finish with the final 2 overs only going for 9 runs with 4 wickets in the last 2 overs, this wrapped up a 13 run for the boys with Beattie 4/14 the pick of the bowlers.
Special mention to Scott Willoughby from Old Boys getting run out in the final over of the game for a well made 99.
