Not much to report on this week thanks to Saturday's rain cancelling most of the cricket and no Presidents Grade scheduled for the week anyway. The Cavaliers T20 grade was played on Thursday due to Show Weekend and the MPCC side had a loss against Sydenham at Sydenham Park. The only MP side to get any cricket in on Saturday was the Div.1 side whose 12pm start turned into a 3pm start and from all reports they probably shouldn't have played at all!
Congratulations to MP Sporting Edge Div.1's Srinath Basaboena whose wicket Saturday in 1/38 against Halswell out at Halswell on a truncated Day 1 was his 100th career wicket for MPCC. Ultimate team man and fantastic guy, "Basa" debuted for the club back in 2010/11 and has also scored 1803 runs to go alongside his 100 wickets to date.

Match Reports from Saturday 13th November ...
MP Sporting Edge Division 1 vs Halswell Vikings @ Halswell 1 (2-Day)(Day 1)
The MPCC Div 1 side travelled to Halswell Domain on Saturday to play Halswell. After near torrential rain for most of the day we decided to delay the start till 3pm in the hope it would clear and the ground would dry out enough to get some play in. About 2:30ish Gilly and the Halswell captain met to decide a start time and while conditions weren't the best somehow they decided we would start at 3pm. Gilly won the toss and decided to bowl in what would normally be very favourable conditions but with a wet and muddy outfield bowlers run ups and fielding wasn't easy.
I think at this point it's worthy of note that for whatever reason most of the team had switched off to playing cricket about 1 o'clock it seems and when we took the field it showed. While the bowlers bowled well for the most part it's fair to say they were not backed up in the field. In dark and gloomy conditions we must have put down 9 or 10 catches and gave away a few runs in overthrows which saw Halswell amass 201 for 6 off their 45 overs with Pickle probably the pick of the bowlers getting 2-28 and having a couple of dubious decisions go against him.
At about 6:15 we started batting with 45 mins or 15 overs to face and bat we didn't. We collapsed faster than Comet going through a deck with everyone seemingly having an ultra defensive mindset and were scrambling to work out who was playing the following week and who could bat. Halswell used all their experience and worked as a team to dismantle our batting order leaving us reeling at 30-6 off 16 overs. We just weren't good enough to be honest but there were a few positives on the day, Basa snared his 100th wicket for the club which couldn't have happened to a nicer guy and great team man and our fines took a huge boost as every dollar counts aye Kyle!
Not sure we deserve a player of the day but special mention to Pickle for his bowling and special thanks to him and Humey for filling in for the day.
All in all not the best day out for us but I know we'll take our learnings from the day and come back stronger.
