As the first month of the season came to an end we finally managed to have all eight MPCC men's sides take the field on the same day which was great to see and now we just need to work on getting more of the players back to the clubrooms for team speeches so that we can hear how everyone got on and swap some stories about the days battles.
Congratulations to both of the Sorting Edge morning grade sides with the Championship & Division1 XI's both earning good outright wins in their latest two-day matches.
This coming week will see both teams playing their next two-day round on Saturday 6th & Sunday 7th November.
The two MPCC Presidents sides are set for their first derby game of the season and have been lucky enough to be drawn to play each other on the hallowed turf of Hagley Oval which should be a great experience for both sides and we look forward to seeing who comes away with the bragging rights by games end!

Match Reports from Saturday 30th October ...
MP Sporting Edge Championship vs Lancaster Park @ Bishopdale 1 (2-Day)(Win)
We came into the second day against Park with them 1-11, needing 144 runs to equal our first innings score. The day got off to a bad start with Jacob Wilson going down injured in warm ups, requiring us to give a very late call up to Tom Batty. It was all up hill from there, with Beattie and Brogan opening the bowling and taking an early wicket and runs were hard to come by. The wickets continued to fall at a steady pace with not many runs coming in return. Josh Dyer came on first change and took a couple of wickets, finishing with figures of 2/8 off his 5. Brogan bowled a huge opening spell and was the bowler of the day with 3/11 off his 13 overs. Cam and Deeley chipped in with 3 wickets between them after a mini partnership by Park and Aaron Chapman got his first wicket for the club to take the last wicket of the day. We ended the day bowling Park out for 75 and taking an innings win before lunch on the second day. It was great to bounce back after a disappointing game on the opening weekend and we now look forward to playing St Albans and hopefully carrying on the form from this weekend.

MP Sporting Edge Div.1 vs St Albans @ Hagley 5 (2-Day)(Win)
Div 1 ended day 1 with St Albans 14-0 off 15 overs, and thus 28 ahead with a first innings win. With that cushion in hand, they decided to drop anchor from ball one, with an RPO ranging from the low of 1 after 28 to the dangerously extravagant 1.82 when they declared at lunch in the 72nd over (57th of the day). Chris (0-7 off 10) and Kyle (0-16 off 11) opened up and bowled pretty well without many opportunities appearing. Caleb and Dave had a go with the same lack of wickets. Bellsy got a wicket first ball and he and Basa traded maidens and 1-run overs for a while as we ground through the equivalent of a botched scrotal wax in the field, peeled away one hair at a time. Energy levels remained pretty good, despite a couple of chances going begging, with Joel’s panther stalks at cover a highlight. In the last 40 minutes or so before lunch, Saints began considering thinking about aggressive intent with Piers Landon-Lane’s 32 off 43 contrasting creditably with the 81 off 363 contributed by the top 4. Bellsy ended up 2-21 off 17, Basa 4-27 off 11 plus a run-out, and Thorpey pouched 3 catches, as Saints declared at 131-7 from 72, leaving us a minimum of 33 overs to chase 148.
In reply, Ash and Louis opened up, with Ash returning for 7 in the 4th over. Gilly joined Louis and they put on a good partnership of 47 before Louis was caught (one-handed, and unexpectedly) for 16 with the score at 57-2 in the 16th over. Bellsy (1) and Thorpey (7) added a few more runs with Gilly to leave us 88-4 after 24 overs, and the last hour about to start. Joel took a dislike to the spin/darts he was facing, taking it out on a replacement medium-pacer with a brutal 6 into the wind, before departing for 17 via a direct hit run-out. With Gilly well past 50 and Kyle fresh, and keen to outdo Joel’s 6, a couple of disagreements about running between the wickets resulted in a few 1s and 2s before Kyle (10) hit a couple of boundaries and was bowled, leaving Gilly to knock off a couple more runs to end up with an impressive 78* off 102, and Basa to add a stylish 0* as we got the winning run off a bye, with about 20 minutes left in the last hour.
Overall, we were happy to get the win after last week’s slip up, with Bellsy, Basa and Gilly taking the lion’s share of the plaudits. Tougher tests lie ahead from now on, but you can’t argue with a smooth finish.

Dave M.
MP Bombay Tandoor Div.3 vs Sumner @ St Leonards 1 (Win)
A warm and sunny Saturday afternoon welcomed us to the scenic St. Leonards Park. The weather did get grey and gloomy as the game progressed, but we did manage to bask in the sun for a couple of hours to start things off.
Toss : Matty called heads (again!!) and lost again!. So, no surprises there at all! This resulted in us being put into bat.
The Pitch: It was green top and hence we did expect it to help the bowlers, which it did all through the game.
Matty and Patto started the proceedings for us, and a couple of quick boundaries got us to 12/0 of 3 overs. From then on, the opening bowlers held on to a tight line and the two paced nature of the pitch did not make batting easy. Patto was bowled in the 6th over and Tim came out to join Matty but was caught at slip very quickly. Max joined Matty at the centre and the ‘great grind’ began. Our scoring rate was just a few notches ahead of the number of overs, but this phase was needed to ensure that we don’t pack up for 69! We got to 38/2 at drinks post which both Max and Matty got a little more aggressive. Runs started trickling in fast with Max getting away a couple of boundaries. Matty’s 97 ball grind was halted by a sharp piece of fielding from mid-off that sent him back for 17. With the score on 80 and with just 8 overs to go, we had to play around with the batting line-up in search of some quick hits. Muscles went in and hoicked one to deep square for a boundary but was caught at long off from his next. Max was really upping the ante at the other end with some quick 2s and a few more hits to the fence to bring up his 1st 50 for the season. Jason joined Max and got away a few singles before being bowled trying to go aerial. Mani and Max finished the inning for us at 129/5 with Max unbeaten on 67. On that deck this was certainly a good score!
The Blues openers did seem a little edgy walking in, and little did they know what Josiah was going to unleash on them. Ball 1 was a peach that caught the edge straight away and pouched behind the stumps only to be denied by the umpire citing “mate’ing reasons! Howler of a decision to a peach of a ball. This friendship was short-lived (all of 2 balls) when Jo cleaned the batsman up with his 3rd delivery crashing into timber! The peaches kept coming and ball number 5 went right through again to clean up their number 3 to leave Sumner trotting at 5/2 in 1 over. Mani conceded a few as he struggled a bit to settle in at the other end while Jo was enacting his own version of “Fire in Babylon” at the other hitting timber and legs of successive deliveries in his 4th over to leave Sumner reeling at 34/4. Jason replaced Mani and picked up a quick wicket when Max held a sharp chance at cover. Pratik’s only over was also a struggle as he tried to adjust to the 2 southpaws at the crease. Their well-set batter Oscar was getting away a few at regular intervals to keep the scoreboard ticking and we did help him his cause with some ‘hit-me’ leg side bowling. Sumner did get to a healthy 79/5 at drinks. We really needed some quick wickets to secure this one and Max put his hand up straight away by bowling Liam in the 1st over after drinks. This opened the floodgates for our skipper to swing-into action with some unplayable balls, one of which cleaned up Oscar. Max got another one with a nice in-cutter at the other end. Matty cleaned up the last man and we managed to wrap things up with Sumner stuck at 82. Overall, an excellent fighting win!
MPCC Batting - Masood Chakari - 67 off 111, Matt Wilcock - 17 off 97
MPCC Bowling - Josiah Leigh - 4 for 18 in 6 overs, Matt Wilcock - 3 for 4 in 4.4 overs, Masood Chakari – 2 for 13 off his eight
Highlights: Josiah's new ball magic and the 2 Musketeers' (Max and Matty) timber hit strategy. Lowlights: 4 extra overs bowled…thanks to 19 wides and 5 no balls!

MP Geeks on Wheels Div.7 vs Prebbleton @ Spreydon Dom.2 (Loss)
After a bye and a rained off week cricket finally returned for the Geeks on Wheels Div 7 side and what better place than Spreydon Domain. With the Barrel out injured still I was promoted to temporary skip, lost the toss and was put in to bat. Jessy (14) and Will (6) got us off to a steady start (17-0) before we found ourselves in all sorts of trouble at 23-4 with Pav getting a golden and myself picking up a 9 ball duck. With 2 players deciding at 11am they couldn’t play we managed to pick up Andy Milne who had mistakenly offered his services to the short North-West Youth sides the previous evening. Andy (7) looked a little rusty but worked it around a little with Laurent. Tom Hooker (4) playing his first ever game of cricket enjoyed the juicy part timer muscling him into the leg side before eventually missing one. David (1) and Phil (3) didn’t offer much support and with the team 70-8 in strolled Sam Brunie in denim shorts. Without the burden of captaincy Brunie could play his natural game slogging everything to cow which proved to be quite effective. Although he missed the majority of balls the ones that mattered were hit and he powered his way to 31. Laurent having come in at 3 had anchored the innings before being last man out for 38 with the team finishing up on 118 all out in the 38th over.
Out to bowl and we opened up with Brunie (in my shoes) and Frosty. Frosty (0-20 off 3) started off with a tight maiden but the opener took a liking to him so he was replaced by Balfour. Balfour bowled well in tandem with Brunie keeping his end tight while Brunie (4-35) sprayed it all around the place, although spraying it seemed to work out alright as he picked up 4 wickets in his 8 over spell. Golden Arm Daly (1-16 off 2.3) was brought on and as per usual picked up a wicket straight away but decided to bowl back of a length after that so was given a breather. Balfour bowled well till drinks picking up 2-24 off his 7 but was very unlucky to not have more. Having my shoes returned to me after drinks I decided to try and roll the arm over (1-1 off 3) but it was probably a bit too late as Prebbleton got the score 8 down after just 25 overs.

Jono Collins
MP Presidents Blue vs BWU Foxes @ Edgar Mac 2 (Loss)
After a close loss to Saints last week, it was important for us to fight very hard against a strong Burnside team. Rain late in the week, meant the toss would again be crucial on a damp, slow wicket. Matt Everest called correctly and had no hesitation in asking us to have first use of the pitch and we knew we were in for a hard day’s work. A cautious start by Kris Rowe and myself. We made our way to 133 all out with a stand out performance from Andy Mayo with his 3rd score of 70 in a row. Nick Barnes and Shane Lacey both ending up with 14 runs.
As we did the previous week, the lads showed a lot of guts and fight. We again created chances but unluckily weren’t able to capitalize on them. Burnside ended up reaching the required runs in the 35th over. Bowling figures - Nathan Columbus 8-1-19-2 and Craig Dyer with 4-0-19-1.
Man of the Match – Andy Mayo
Hopefully our batsmen can support Andy next week going into our club derby against the MP Canaries!

Mario Williams
MP BBS Timbers Presidents Gold vs Ohoka @ Mandeville 3 (Win)
The "Canaries" got their first look at the Mandeville Sports Ground after being hosted by Ohoka for the first time (the one and only occasion the two teams went at it was on the Burnside Presidents day last season where we came second in a competitive match). Hearing great things we were initially distraught to learn we had lost the toss (coming in light on players) and thrown the ball and asked to have a bowl against Scott and Senior. Some midweek tactical talk determined Pickle and Hume were to start proceedings and they didn't disappoint, the odd stand and deliver boundary striking met with some unplayable stuff as swing/seam and bounce made life tough for the openers. Our first breakthrough established when Senior (5) chased the outswing and guided a good catch to Cam at backward point, score at 14 in the fifth. More of the same when Archer joined Scott, generally tight with the odd boundary thrown in. The ninth was when the magic started to happen when Pickle couldn't get his hands out of the way of a Scott wicked straight drive, having a slight bobble and retaining the catch, Scott removed for 13. Dann (0) got a rip snorter from Hume next over seaming back in to collect the stumps and reduce Ohoka to 31/3. Eugene counter attacked and was finding the rope while newcomer Loffhagen (2) got stitched up and trapped in front. Archer was next to fall stepping well across and receiving a low full toss that was adjudged to be hitting if the pad wasn't in the way, gone for a classy looking 24. Things didn't get any better for Ohoka when Hume finished his eight on the trot trapping Prebble (0) in front as well, the opening pair of Pickle and Hume setting up Ohoka at 52/6 after 16. Steve ending 8/2/20/4 and Mark 8/1/26/2. Then it was time to unleash the "proper" bowlers, Crimp and Millar. Tight was the key and building pressure on Johnson and Cuthbertson. This paid dividends with a chance going begging off Millar then backing it up when he picked up Cuthbertson before drinks when Mayo made good use of ample chest and hands to cup the ball. Could have added to the tally if the same player held off on a mistimed dive giving McLorinon a life the ball before the break. Whatever Crimp had for a drink must have fired him up as he upped the pace and got the line right knocking over McLorinon (3) then Johnson (4) in consecutive overs. The last pair of Davis and Heskins looked like attack was the better option as Heskins especially got hold of a couple, one of which was sent packing over the long straight boundary. But he, in the end, couldn't resist the pace of Crimp becoming his third victim as Crimp cleaned up the tail again 4.1/1/4/3. Ohoka setting 71 as the target...
Frankie and Johnny Price were given the responsibility to start the chase, with Prebble and Cuthbertson designated Ohoka's inroad kings. Things got interesting when we lost Kokiri in the second for no score, Cuthbertson sneaking a ball through his defences. This brought our man in form the "Humble Hume" who was denied strike for the first couple of overs he was out there as Stumpy farmed the strike. When he did get to face up it was three balls of watchfulness then back to back pulls off Prebble to get him on his way. From that point it was pretty much one way traffic a couple of chances put down didn't detract from the clinical effort from our two, Ohoka throwing the ball around in an effort to find a way through the pair. By the end of the 16th with six options taken the writing was on the wall and a pull off Davis from Johnny eclipsed the total required and brought an end to proceedings, Stumpy unbeaten on 36* and Hume 35*. This gave plenty of time to enjoy the facilities that Mandeville offers. Our gracious hosts were given time to digest and regurgitate the efforts of the day then throw them away in a bin for burning, then we were invited to partake in the conversation going on in their change room (twice the size at least of the visitor room, lol). Great bunch of blokes that take their cricket seriously (based on the numbers involved in monetary demands of the fines session) and they'll shrug off the bad day at the office and expect a backlash next week.
